Hampshire Family Photographer – Ten Jelly Beans {a family session in the New Forest, Dorset}

This family is special for a whole host of reasons. First, Edie has Rett Syndrome and that makes her very close to my heart. She’s very close in age to my Gracie and so I was really looking forward to meeting her and making their portaits. It’s not easy photographing kids with special needs and disabilities because you have to be reeeeeally patient. And you need to know how to anticipate their needs. So I have my Gracie May to thank for teaching me how to do it!

When Claire saw the first shot online, she said:

“Oh Elizabeth you have captured the essence of Edie! Thank you so much it’s gorgeous. I’m in tears! Good tears!”

Now, Fred…what a character! Not only does he have a rather lovely little vocabulary going, he has the Naomi Campbell flick of the wrist down to a T. With a wave of his hand, he cooly says, “no more pictures” and walks away. However being the very clever photographer I am, I save the jelly beans until this point and -voila!- he’s ready to rock-n-roll allover again.

His mum made me laugh with her assessment that he “wouldn’t even get out of bed for less than 10 jelly beans a day” which, as you’ll know, is a reference to Linda Evangelista’s quote about ten thousand dollars.

So here you have it. Yet another fantastic family session in the Dorset New Forest.
